Meanwhile, the recorder tops the list of most commonly played instruments at school (43 per cent), followed by the piano (22 per cent) and guitar (16 per cent).

Bereavement

A film exploring the role music can play in dealing with bereavement has been created by 10 bereaved young people. The Memories in Music project has been undertaken by the Young People’s Advisory Group at Child Bereavement UK in Runcorn, Cheshire. The two-minute clip will now be used to reach out to other bereaved youngsters. Visit: http://bit.ly/1neevzV

Sports Relief

Sports Relief is taking place on March 18 with schools being urged to sign up for the Wristbands for Schools scheme. Selling wristbands is a popular way of raising funds for the Comic Relief initiative. Money raised helps people in the world’s poorest communities, including in the UK. Selling one box of 60 wristbands could buy malaria medication for 150 children in Africa. Visit: www.sportrelief.com/wristbandsoffer
