Governors for Schools

The work of charity Governors for Schools has an annual value of around £10 million to schools, an impact report produced by Pro Bono Economics has concluded.

Governors for Schools works to find, nurture and support networks of governors and connects schools with skilled and committed volunteers supported by business and university partnerships.

Over the last five years, the charity has placed more than 11,600 volunteers in schools and according to its own surveys nine out of 10 volunteers placed in the last four years are still governors today.

Skills offered by the charity’s governors include HR, general education expertise, health and safety, legal, IT and finance.

A survey report undertaken by Pro Bono Economics and involving 700 volunteers and more than 400 schools found that collectively, the governors placed by the charity bring an annual value of £9.9 million to schools across England, spending an average of 6.7 hours a month on governing duties.
