Voices of the Second World War: A Child’s Perspective is a collection of first-hand accounts from people who experienced the Second World War, from all over Europe – stretching from Russia to the Channel Islands, Norway to Malta and the UK to Germany.

Retired teacher Sheila Renshaw interviewed each person individually and obtained unique stories with a wide range of viewpoints and experiences. There are stories of bravery, danger and life under occupation. Also, it provides the opportunity to hear the accounts of a generation that will soon be gone forever.

Ms Renshaw said: “The Second World War was one of the deadliest conflicts in human history, which changed the political and social structure of Europe. Many believe that children should be aware of the significance of the Second World War and how it affected both the UK and the rest of Europe.

“Reading these personal accounts, from a child’s perspective, will help them understand what life was like for children who lived through this time.”
