School library campaign is launched

Facilities
A three-year Great School Libraries campaign has been launched in a bid to secure better school library funding.

It is also wants to see recognition of school libraries within the revised Ofsted inspection framework, due to be implemented from September 2019.

The campaign is being led by the School Library Association, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) and CILIP’s School Libraries Group.

The campaign is also calling for the creation of a national framework for school libraries.

A statement from the campaign said: “All children deserve a great school library because adequately funded, staffed school libraries deliver enhanced and independent learning as well as reading and curriculum support. School libraries contribute to building life-long readers and support whole-school initiatives promoting reading for pleasure.”
